filing auto insurance claim process

Filing Your Insurance Claim

The claims process can be confusing and figuring out what’s covered under your policy takes time. That’s where we come in!  Our in-house customer service representatives will handle calling your insurance company and file your claim on your behalf. Then we’ll schedule your appointment either in-shop or at a location convenient to you.

You have a right to choose your glass replacement company! Did you know when you call to file an auto glass claim you’re NOT really calling your insurance company?

As soon as you hit the prompt for “glass only claim,” you are re-directed to a third-party administrator that is affiliated with a nationwide glass company. These third-party administrators may try to force you to go to one of their chosen locations as they receive monetary compensation for doing so. This process is known as “Job Steering” and is ILLEGAL in the United States. Quality and superior customer service is hard to come by these days and you have the right to choose your glass provider when filing a claim. If you ever have questions or concerns, please contact our office and we’ll be happy to assist!

Some of the major insurance companies we work with include, but are not limited to:

Allstate, American Commerce Nationwide, State Farm, Travelers, Safeco, Progressive, Metropolitan, The Hartford, Liberty Mutual, Geico, Farmers, Farm Family, Encompass, Chubb, Arbella, Amica, Acadia, AIG/21st Century, General Casualty, Hanover, Infinity, Kemper, National Grange, One Beacon, Patrons, New London County, Plymouth Rock, Utica, USAA, Quincy Mutual, Century, Harleysville, National General, Philadelphia, AAA, CSAA, Atlantic Mutual, Patrons Mutual, and Zurich.

Lifetime Warranty & Licensed Technicians

Lifetime Warranty on Windshield Replacement

With your windshield replacement, you’ll get a written lifetime guarantee along with a “Safe Drive Away Time” tag indicating when your vehicle can safely be driven. Replacements typically take about an hour and even if it’s 0 degrees or 122 degrees out, Sika adhesives exceed the manufacturer safety standards for auto glass replacement installation. While some companies use cheaper, aftermarket materials, Plymouth Glass & Mirror never compromises quality. We are so confident in our windshield replacement service that we provide a lifetime warranty on your windshield replacement for as long as you own the vehicle. If you have comprehensive full glass coverage on your auto insurance policy, there is no deductible for windshield replacement!

Certified, Licensed Windshield Replacement Technicians

Windshield replacement shouldn’t be done by just anyone! It may sound like an easy job, but it’s important to have skilled technicians perform this service because many safety factors are involved. In fact, your vehicle’s windshield is an integral part of it’s safety system. It helps to support the roof and ensure proper airbag deployment. As a reputable Connecticut windshield repair and replacement shop, we use quality products and the latest installation techniques to properly install your windshield in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications. It’s important to us to be able to ensure our customers that they are driving away in a safe vehicle.

Windshield Repair Process

Every day throughout Connecticut thousands of windshields are damaged by flying rocks or other road debris. When an object strikes the outer layer of the windshield with sufficient force, it can cause a small hole on impact. This allows air to enter the damaged area which creates a diffusion of light making it hard to see while driving. The goal when we repair a windshield is to penetrate the glass surface through the pit of the break with a transparent liquid resin. The resin replaces the entrapped air and restores visibility, since it has the same index of refraction as the glass. The resin once cured also bonds the loose glass within the damaged area making it safe to drive again. In most cases, the windshield repair will not be totally invisible, however, at least 90% of the optical diffusion will be eliminated, restoring transparency and preventing further cracking.

At Plymouth Glass and Mirror, we take pride in our craftsmanship and want to make ensure you have the best experience possible. We’ve outlined how we repair a windshield to help you better understand the process prior to your mobile or in-shop service appointment.

Repair Process
When repairing a windshield, one of our skilled technicians begins with a close inspection of the damage. Then they carefully use a carbide tip probe to remove the loose glass particles from the damaged area. Then they clean the area with a dry cloth. After mounting an adhesive seal to the windshield and pressing down to ensure a good bond, a pedestal is mounted to the adhesive base where the windshield repair will be completed. The technician then places the UV resin into the pedestal. After allowing the resin time to dry, the technician will remove the device and wipe away excess resin. A piece of mylar, a specialized plastic film, is applied over the repaired area and smoothed out with a razor blade. Finally, a UV curing lamp is placed over the windshield repair area for approximately 5 minutes to allow the resin to harden. Once completed, your vehicle is ready to safely drive again!

If your car glass has any of the below signs, it’s time to schedule a repair with us!

  • Bull’s Eye – Looks like a circular, cone shaped indent on the outer layer of the glass
  • Chip – A piece of glass that is missing
  • Crack Chip – A single crack that is smaller than the size of a quarter
  • Half Moon – Similar to a bull’s eye, but not completely circular
  • Stone Break – A small chip that happens when a stone hits the windshield but becomes a larger crack over time
  • Long Crack – A crack that is over 6” in length
  • Pit – An area where a piece of glass is missing

Although there are many circumstances where an auto glass repair will be effective, there are some situations that warrant a complete windshield replacement. Our professional auto glass technicians can help determine whether we can complete an auto glass repair, or if your windshield should be replaced.

Cleaning Your Glass Shower Door from the Experts at Plymouth Glass & Mirror

Say Goodbye to the Film on Your Glass Shower Doors Forever!

Do you spend extra time cleaning due to film on your glass showers doors? We have good news for you. At Plymouth Glass and Mirror, we offer a maintenance-free glass coating. Different from other products that are applied on the glass and can wash away, the permanent coating is applied to the glass when it’s being manufactured to maintain the clear beauty of your shower once installed in your bathroom. Using a unique ion beam process, it stops corrosion before it starts. Similar to the benefits of a non-stick cooking pan, the coating deters hard water stains and calcium deposits from sticking to the glass to help keep your frameless shower glass looking brand new for years to come. Although it is still necessary to clean your shower glass, our coating helps reduce the amount of time you spend scrubbing. The coating is compatible with most everyday cleaning solutions such as Lysol, Clorox, Windex and many more. We also offer a lifetime warranty, so we’re confident that you’re going to love spending less time cleaning your shower doors. Check out our portfolio with an array of different shower door styles!

Glass Shower Door Cleaning Tips & Tricks

Not everyone has a protective coating on their older glass shower doors, especially in the older homes throughout Connecticut. Here are some ideas to keep your shower glass looking extra sparkly! Because soap scum and hard water build up can take hours to clean off, it’s best to try and keep up with shower door cleaning every other week. Having a squeegee in your shower helps with daily maintenance but below is a cleaning mixture to try out. It could help cut your cleaning time in half!

Glass Shower Door Cleaning Mixture:
Mix 1 tablespoon of Dawn Dish Soap with 1 cup of White Vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on your shower doors and let it sit for 20 minutes (longer if you haven’t cleaned in months and try to open some windows for ventilation). The dawn will act as a bonding agent to help the vinegar stick to the glass. After it sets, fill a bucket with hot water and use the soft side of a sponge to scrub. Rinse off the sponge in the bucket and continue scrubbing until stains are no longer visible. Rinse with clean hot water. We recommend a final wipe down with Windex or any other glass cleaner to make it shine. Happy cleaning!

Windshield repair or replacement cracked windshield

Windshield Repair or Replacement

Windshield repair is a cost-effective alternative to windshield replacement

Plymouth Glass and Mirror offers windshield repair in Hartford, Waterbury and surrounding cities and towns as a cost effective option when you aren’t in need of an entire windshield replacement. Windshields can often be repaired when the damage is addressed quickly and the damaged area is small enough. Did you know that in some cases, windshield chips up to a quarter in size can be repaired? By exposing the damaged windshield to road grime, water from rain or car washes, or even changes in weather, you increase the chance that the damage will spread and a windshield replacement will be required. Repairs do not require the removal of the windshield ensuring the original manufacturer’s warranty. Once a technician assesses the damage of your windshield, a recommendation will be made if an entire replacement is necessary for your safety.

Windshield repairs are typically covered 100% by your insurance company. If you’re paying out of pocket, repairs typically are about 75% of the cost of a replacement. In most cases, insurance companies will not consider auto glass damage as a claim on your policy and raise your rates. If you’re concerned, call us first and we’ll contact your insurance agent to find out about glass repair coverage!

If you are in need of a windshield replacement, we carry hundreds of original manufacturer glass in stock. Whether our service technician comes to your location or you bring your vehicle to the shop, a full windshield replacement appointment is typically complete in under an hour. At Plymouth Glass and Mirror, we want to get you safely back on the road… and fast!

Cracked Windshield Repair

Cracked Windshield? We Come To You!

Mobile windshield repair and replacement service in Connecticut- Extreme weather, traffic accidents, flying rocks, roadside debris, and other factors all contribute to damaging windshields. While a small chip or crack in the windshield doesn’t pose a huge threat, it’s still important to get it replaced or repaired especially because these cracks or chips can spread quickly, creating several risks. Once they are large enough to interfere with your field-of-vision, they can create a blurred vision and decrease visibility.

Did you know that your vehicle’s auto glass is an important part of the vehicle’s safety system and overall structural integrity of the vehicle? The auto glass helps support the roof and ensures proper airbag deployment if you experience a crash. The windshield helps transfer the force of a frontal collision in the chassis. This helps lessen the impact you feel. If the glass is damaged, it may shatter during a collision, the roof is more susceptible to caving in during a rollover accident, and the airbags may not deploy as they are intended to.

40th Anniversary Celebration

PLYMOUTH GLASS & MIRROR CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF BUSINESS BY DONATING TO LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS

Plymouth Glass & Mirror is celebrating 40 years of business in 2021! It all started with the Maslak brothers, born and raised in Thomaston, who saw a need for local glass repair and opened a small repair shop in town in 1981. In 2001, younger brother Darryl took over the business and it has since grown to over 40 employees. PGM has always been family owned and operated and still is to this day. What was once a one bay shop in the 80’s has turned into a multi-building repair service facility helping the local community with residential and commercial glass projects.

To celebrate our 40th Anniversary, PGM is giving back to the community that has served us well over the last four decades. Every month throughout 2021 we will be surprising one local organization with a donation.  PGM Director of Operations, Nikki Maloid said that she is extremely proud of where the business has come in 40 years and wanted to take this opportunity to give back.  “We’ve learned a lot in 40 years and there’s no denying that we wouldn’t be here without the support of the local community. Paying it forward each month is our way of saying ‘Thank You’.” Below is a list of all the donations Plymouth Glass has made throughout this past year!

January: Thomaston Little League (TLL) by supplying new equipment for the upcoming season. TLL was unable to have a season last year due to COVID-19. In order to have a season this year they must comply with new regulations to keep kids and families healthy and safe. Equipment is needed for each child that will be participating and PGM is happy to provide some of the equipment that is necessary for play.

February: Thomaston Volunteer Fire Departments Explorers Program. Our donation helped Explorers attend the Connecticut Fire Academy Summer camp to learn valuable fire safety skills to help the Thomaston Community.

March: Dog Star Rescue. We helped a Connecticut Veteran find his new furry best friend by covering the cost of adoption fees and medical expenses.

April: Thomaston Community Food Pantry. The local pantry helps those in need right here in Thomaston and we were happy to provide food donations and supplies to help people in our backyard.

May: St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury. The mission does so much more for the community than feed and shelter those in need. Our donation helped put together individualized plans for community members to help them find solutions to brighten their future including job interview prep, clothing outfitting and more!

June: YMCA Camp Mataucha. Helping local kids throughout the summer was such a rewarding experience. With our donation local children were able to attend the camp that wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend.

July: Waterbury Police Activity League. Our donation will benefit their youth cooking program which is designed to help the kids with life skills they can apply at home. The PAL team has a food truck that is available for rent for your next event!

August: Dream Ride Experience/Special Olympics Connecticut. Our support helped support the dreams of the Special Olympics athletes and individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The entire weekend event was a success and the foundation reached their fundraising goal of 3 million dollars.

September: Terryville Animal Rescue Foundation. With our donation they were able to cover unforeseen medical expenses for shelter animals and for much needed shelter supplies. If you’re looking to adopt a cat or dog, look no further.

October: Thomaston High School Project Graduation. Each year the Senior Class solicits donations to have a safe drug and alcohol-free graduation party to celebrate their success prior to their next adventure. We’re proud to support our Golden Bears!

November: Chase Collegiate School. Our donation helped supply winter jackets to over 20 kids in need.

December: Thomaston Christmas Committee. Each year the committee supplies local families with Christmas gifts to put under their trees.  We were happy to help provide gifts to those local children that might not otherwise have anything to open.

Recalibrating Your Windshield Sensors

The Technology of Modern Windshields

Most vehicles today come equipped with at least one form of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). ADAS provides warnings about potential hazards on the road, such as collisions or vehicles in your blind spot. If your vehicle is from model year 2011 or newer, it likely has ADAS integrated into its windows and windshield. However, if the windshield needs replacing, the ADAS must be recalibrated to ensure it functions correctly. Without recalibration, the ADAS may fail to detect vehicles, pedestrians, and roadblocks, compromising your safety. Vehicle manufacturers require ADAS recalibration whenever the windshield is replaced. Other situations that necessitate recalibration include wheel realignment, suspension system replacement, and disconnection of the vehicle’s camera.

There are two types of windshield recalibration: static and dynamic. Dynamic recalibration involves driving the vehicle at a specific speed on well-marked roads. Static recalibration uses an image on a fixture placed directly in front of the vehicle.

For the best ADAS recalibration, trust Plymouth Glass & Mirror, the leading windshield company in Connecticut since 1981. The procedure duration varies by vehicle make and model, but you should plan for about one to two hours.

When it comes to windshield repair, replacement and recalibrated services, Plymouth Glass & Mirror stands unmatched in the Waterbury, Bristol, West Hartford, Southington, and Fairfield, CT areas. We offer mobile service throughout the state. Contact us today if you need your vehicle’s ADAS recalibrated.
